1200 IITs, NITs Graduates to be selected for teaching at Engineering Colleges in Poor Districts
More than 1200 Highly Qualified Graduates from Premier Institutions will be placed in Backward Areas in order to improve quality of Technical Education – as said by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development in a tweet. TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme) is an initiative of the NPIU (National Project Implementation Unit) which implements World Bank Assisted Projects in Technical Education and as it 1215 candidates were accepted to teach at 53 institutes in 11 focus states.
NPIU has initiated the online process of engagement of faculty on temporary basis as a stop gap arrangement till the positions are filled on a regular basis by the respective State Governments. This is done in order to address the problem of dearth of a well qualified faculty.
Applicants for the openings for 1320 faculty positions in 33 disciplines in 53 colleges were invited, and were required to have a valid gate score. The interviews were conducted by the 20 NITs who then uploaded the ratings of almost 13500 candidates from across the country on an online portal. After three rounds – the process completed and spanned for two months - 1215 candidates were selected and allotted institutes on January 19, 2018.
All newly joined teachers – 86% from IITs, NITs and all other premier institutions, 24% selected PhDs – will be undergoing a one week induction program during January 15 to February 16, 201, before they are assigned with teaching activities. The initiative aims to improve quality of education and help secure NBA accreditation of the engineering Programme.
